Koeke Junction is the crossroad between Taihape, Papanui and Pohonui.
It stands at the head of the Pohonui valley. The Mangamahoe stream begins some
two or three hundred yards down from the Junction and joins
the Turakina river at Pukeroa .
Koeke was once known as Kowaka and Mr E A Lewis's Store operated there until it burned
down in 1928..
Reeses Store just above the Pohonui School closed down some time later
Schools in the area have nearly all closed... Koeke, Pohonui and Rongoiti have all gone...
